September 3:rd 2013 – The first Danish hardcore record Dream Police – Demise Irmgardz – IRMGS 104 – 1981- 7″ Despite the band name it’s much the work of the charismatic Johnny Concrete. The band started already back in 1977 and can also be heard on the must have Danish Pære Punk compilation from 1979. Many of the first wave punk bands became softer over the time, Johnny Concrete however, obviously had an another agenda – playing harder music. The band was from Århus in Denmark which had a very active rock scene. Johnny was also involved in booking bands (I can remember the name of the club) but also making zines. This EP is recorded live at Saltlageret in Copenhagen just a few days before Christmas 1980. The EP is claimed to be the first Danish hardcore record, I guess the live recording helped the sound. That Johnny also liked bands like MC5 and the Stooges is quite obvious. The records got a nice review in MMR issue 6 which preferred the two songs on the B-side. Johnny also put out an EP in his own name which you can check out on Killed By Death Records. He was also in Predictions which made a tape. Full EP: ♬ Demise / Doomsday / Anti-Christ (MP3 320 kbps).
