Mellakka ‎– Itsenäisyyspäivä (1985)

November 29th 2014 – Mellakka’s second EP

Mellakka ‎– Itsenäisyyspäivä

Rat Poison Records ‎– RAT-002 – 1985 – 7″

I have always found the Finnish hardcore scene more interesting than the Swedish one. Maybe because they sounded even more aggressive than the Swedish peers, but also because they wore more leather clothing and by so looked cooler. Deep down it might be some homo-erotica involved, who knows. This record will also have the honor to be the first rip from my new turntable, armed with a moving coil cartridge, a royal needle for a royal band.

One of the great bands from Finland was Mellakka. Formed back in 1983 they put out the amazing EP “Ei” back in 1984. An awesome slab. The 1984 line-up of this Rauma act was: Kapulainen (vox), Janne (guitar), Jappe (drums), Holkka (bass). However as 1984 moved into January 1985, Pete from Pohjasakka fronted the microphone and a great fan of the band, Perttula took the guitar position.

I am aware that some people might have issues with the thrashy metal influences with the mid 80’s Finland hardcore. However – this is 90% hardcore, 10% metal and 100% vodka.

The band made a 3 song demo in 1985. If anyone got a legit copy for sell, please contact us, it’s a must have artifact.

And if you don’t have a Finnish – English dictionary: Mellakka ‎means “Riot” and Itsenäisyyspäivä means “Independence Day”
